... Our Dedicated Teachers ...
Immaculate Conception Parish School
From the opening of the Immaculate Conception Parish School in September 1904 until its consolidation with St. Athanasius in the later 1980s, the school was staffed by the outstanding and dedicated Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary order. This fine group of women devotedly and endearingly set about to educate and guide the youth of the parish through our formative early years, setting us on the road to becoming upstanding, educated and honest members of society. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone who attended Immaculate Conception Parish School whose lives have not been positively impacted by the good Sisters. Quite simply, the help, support and guidance provided by these fine Sisters helped to mold the future individuals we would become. We received a fine education at their hands, and are forever indebted to them
This is not to diminish the work done by the lay teachers that were later hired, as they did an equally fine job in our overall education. Listed here are the IHM Sisters, lay teachers and some very honorable mentions who taught or worked at Immaculate Conception Parish School. We salute them......we honor them.....and we thank them!
Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
A special mention should be made of Sr. Mary Gonzales. She started teaching at IC when the school opened in 1904. She was assigned elsewhere for a few years in the 1910s, then reassigned back to IC, where she taught until 1953. Of her 52 years as an IHM Sister, Sr. Mary Gonzales spent 43 of those years teaching elocution and art to the students of Immaculate Conception School. She taught at Immaculate Conception School longer than any other Sister or lay teacher. She passed away on December 28, 1954.
