.....Our Fallen Heroes.....

 

In honor and remembrance

of those police officers and firefighters

 of Immaculate Conception Parish

who died in the line of duty,

while protecting and serving the citizenry.

Lest we ever forget these fallen heroes....

 

 

 

 

Police Officer William A. Lackman

    

     IC Class of 1949 

     Died October 17, 1968 - age 34

 

Officer William Lackman was shot and killed by a suspect while investigating a burglary call in an office building at Welsh and Verree Roads. One suspect was shot and killed by other Officers at the scene. Three additional suspects were later arrested and convicted of murder. All three suspects were sentenced to life in prison.

Officer Lackman served in the 7th Police District for 11 years and is survived by his wife, daughter, and a son who was born after Officer Lackman's death.

 

 

Police Officer John M. McEntee

    

     IC Class of 1961 - CD Class of 1965

     Died February 20, 1971 - age 24

 

Officer McEntee was shot to death as he was sitting in his patrol car at Woodstock and Norris streets. He and other officers had responded to an unfounded radio call. Officer McEntee was a 2˝-year veteran. He was survived by his wife and daughter. Two men were arrested and found guilty of murder.

 

 

 

 

Police Officer Garrett (Gary) T. Farrell

  

     IC Class of 1968 - CD Class of 1972

     Died September 26, 1980 - age 26

 

Officer Farrell was shot and killed while chasing down a thief who had beaten and robbed a 72-year-old woman of her purse. The thief was a career criminal out of prison on a weekend pass. When the day started, there were four Farrells on the Philadelphia police force—Gary, his two brothers, Michael and William, and his wife, Stephanie—there were only three when it ended.

Firefighter Kenneth M. Gallagher

   Born August 25, 1947

   IC Class of 1961

   Died August 14, 1982 - age 34

 

 

Kenneth Gallagher was born on August 25, 1947.  He grew up in East Germantown, attended   Immaculate Conception Parish School, then attended four different high schools - LaSalle College HS, Cardinal Dougherty HS, Germantown HS and Roxborough HS.  Ken proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp Reserves and was discharged in June 1972.  He joined the Philadelphia Fire Department on June 3, 1974.  He was appointed to Ladder 21 on the "B" platoon, upon graduating from the Fire Training Academy on July 29, 1974.  Ken was known for his good-hearted, fun-loving, friendly nature.  He loved being surrounded by his family and friends.  Ken was a sports fan who enjoyed spending some of his free time on the area's golf courses.  Firefighter Gallagher was survived by his mother, Eleanor Gallagher, his wife, Mary and his 1-1/2 year old son, Kevin.
